Microsoft office 2007 stopped support - lifetime key

Hello,

I purchased Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 with a lifetime license. It used to work fine, but now it doesn’t run with Microsoft 365.

I’d like to know:

  • Did Microsoft completely stop supporting Office 2007?
  • Is my license key valid only for Office 2007, or can I get a new key for Microsoft 365?
  • Since it was a “lifetime” license, what options do I have now that it no longer works? Only purchasing 365?

  • Of course. Here's a short and direct answer:

Yes, Microsoft completely ended all support for Office 2007 in 2017, including security updates. Your lifetime license is only valid for the Office 2007 version you purchased; it does not transfer to Microsoft 365.

    Your options are to:

    1. Continue using Office 2007 at your own security risk (not recommended).
    2. Purchase a new subscription for Microsoft 365 (recommended for security and compatibility).
    3. Consider the free alternative, , if you don't want a subscription.

Did you purchase it from Microsoft or third-party service? This makes huge difference.

Adding to what Stefan has (correctly) told you...

You may be able to repair or reinstall Office 2007, but you will need the original installation media and the product key that came with it.

Microsoft 365 is a subscription version of Office that will work on mobile devices (sort of) and includes Outlook. It will run on multiple computers. You have to pay monthly or annually, though.

In my opinion any version of Word after Word 2007 is an improvement. I do not think it was ready for marketing when offered.

  • Office 2007 has been out of support since 2017 (see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/microsoft-office-2007 ). It should still run, for as long as the hardware and operating system supports it. I don't know why it isn't working for you. Which version of Windows do you have?

You can't upgrade Office 2007 to a new version. If you want to purchase a newer perpertual license, there is Office Home 2024 or Office Home & Business 2024. Only the latter includes the classic version of Outlook. Both versions will run on one computer (PC or Mac) for one user. None will work with mobile devices.
