Consider this:
- Enable file format conversion on open
- Use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) for Excel files
- Try Office Compatibility Mode
Not sure what it does in the background, but rebooting after Repair in Apps-Modify-Repair made the job. There was a power outage the night before in the office during a Windows update. It might have negatively impacted Office programs.
