Fix Find-Replace is showing the bottom of the selection

When find-replacing multiple lines, MS Word scrolls up so high that it only shows the last line. For example:

How do I fix that? I can't see anything.

  • Try this:

    1. Switch to Draft View

Sometimes Word’s Print Layout view tries too hard to preserve formatting, which messes with scrolling:

    • Go to the View tab.
    • Select Draft.
    • Try your Find and Replace again—this view is less strict about layout and may show the full selection.
    1. Disable “Keep with Next” and “Keep Lines Together”

These paragraph settings can cause Word to jump around oddly:

    • Select the affected paragraphs.
    • Right-click and choose Paragraph.
    • Uncheck Keep with next and Keep lines together under the “Line and Page Breaks” tab.
    1. Zoom Out Temporarily

Zooming out can give you a broader view of the selection:

    • Use Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Down or go to the View tab and adjust the Zoom level.

    4. Update or Repair Office

If this is a new issue, it could be a bug introduced in a recent update:

    • Go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
    • Or run a Quick Repair via Control Panel > Programs > Microsoft Office > Change.
