Autocorrect "Replace text as you type" no longer working in comments
I'm a college English professor. I've been using MS Word's Reviewing features for years (decades?) to offer feedback on student essays. I mainly make bubble comments in the margins of the document (CMD-OPT-A or Insert > Comment). Until recently, my Autocorrect "Replace text as you type" feature was working in the comments (my fumbly fingers mistype things like "differnet" and I've even added some shortcuts like "dangmod" to "dangling modifier"). But as of maybe a few months ago, my comments no longer autocorrect. I haven't changed any settings, and the function works in the body text of the document.
I have a 2023 Macbook Pro running Sequoia 15.7.1, and I'm using MS Word for Mac Version 16.101.3.
Anybody have the solution for this? I've spent years training myself to use MS Word's Reviewing so I can be very efficient with my time (I know all the keyboard shortcuts, etc.), but if autocorrect no longer works, I'll probably just switch to Google Docs or something.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Does AutoCorrect still work in the main body of the document? I suspect that the so-called modern comments are preventing AutoCorrect from working in comments, but I don't have a copy of Word for Mac at the moment so I can't test this hypothesis myself.

Yes, Autocorrect still works for the body text. This is what's maddening about it. It works there. It used to work in the comments (just months ago). I haven't changed any settings. It's just broken now (for comments), which makes my work so much more frustrating.
A recent update may have broken the feature. Report this to Microsoft using the feedback facility in Word for Mac. For instructions, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-do-i-give-feedback-on-microsoft-365-2b102d44-b43f-4dd2-9ff4-23cf144cfb11#platform=macos .
