How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

- stringemptyCopper ContributorSomeone on twitter, ask Elon Mask to bring attention to this!
We need to pull it out of MS's backlog in their Jira 😄 - larsonreeverCopper Contributormy laptop is old . it's really slower than Win10. I know I can't require more in the testing version, . But I really need the "not combining" feature 😞
- MSFreakCopper ContributorWhat, this is still not fixed? I tried Windows 11 when it came out, but went back to Windows 10 due to the missing "never combine taskbar" button. Now I wanted to install Windows 11 again thinking they have fixed that issue for sure, but what do I see? Common, guys at Microsoft, please give us that option back.

please get back the "never combine taskbar buttons" feature ASAP!

I think we all need to start raising the profile of the issue. No one at MS reads this blog. For example, start and posting about it on twitter with a link to this page and tag the MS people leading in this space (@panos_panay, @christinakoehn, @Windows). If anyone has their emails share that and start mailing them direct. Nothing will change otherwise. If people look at this post it has thousands of views and 40 odd pages of comments. That’s a lot of 'engagement' to just ignore.
- ammukaBrass ContributorGood Idea!

Would be great to see if Dave Plummer of youtube "dave's garage" fame has much pull or connections still at MS @davepl1968- BeNiceCopper Contributor
Well, lets hope. As far as I can remember, it was in 2000-2002 when MS reacted to one of my reported "anomalies" in Windows 2000/XP.
Those good old times... .
Back then I uploaded an virtual PC Image directly to MS (they just bought the company who developed Virtual PC/Server) with a mail, how to reproduce the steps.
Sadly those time are long gone. Now it feels that they are as far away as the moon for us... .

I know some of you don't want to use 3rd party software or are restricted by company policy. But until Microsoft brings the feature back, there is little choice.
One of the reasons most of us use Windows is because of it versatility including the ability to install 3rd party software for all kinds of purposes.
You use Photoshop because MS paint doesn't have the features you need.
The same principle applies here. A feature you need is gone. And there are some 3rd party solutions available.
If your company does not allow 3rd party software, you can put in a request to try to get them to approve this. (citing productivity loss) Worth a try.
So if you can, don't deny yourself a temporary fix until Microsoft gets their act together. And by all means keep pressuring Microsoft.
I use Explorer Patcher and OpenShell. A killer combo in my opinion.- ammukaBrass Contributor
The way I prefer to pressure Microsoft is to not use their OS if it lacks what i personally deem to be a core productivity feature.
Until windows 11 has the ungroup option or until windows 10 support ends, then i'll just keep using win10.
Comparing MSpaint to photoshop actually serves no real purpose to this discussion. MSpaint has never claimed to be a powerhouse application for image manipulation. In fact it has largely remained unchanged with the occasional feature ADDED.
"Added" is the key word here.
In the win11 ungroup taskbar issue, microsoft have removed a feature from their OS that people actually used.- CougieBrass Contributor
I could have used a different example but that not the point.
My point is that Windows is very versatile such that someone always comes up with fixes to problems.
And you should take advantage of them instead of suffering through slow productivity while you patiently wait for a first party solution that may or may not come.
Of course you also have the option to stick to Windows 10 or another OS. That's all fine.

Its so annoying to search in those tiny icons, I usually have some 10 excels open at a time and its really frustrating to search for the correct one every single time . Hope someone listens !!
- padraigglynnCopper ContributorThis is so painful. Please Microsoft bring back the ungroup button. I do not understand why is was removed. It really affects productivity. I don't want to have to go back to win 10 or install dodgy 3rd party software to fix this
- Wacky_Tacky_TieCopper ContributorI have an ultrawide, and I KNOW I'm not the only one with one of those. They continue to increase in popularity. There is a massive amount of unused space in the taskbar on wide screens. Let me fill up that space if I choose to! Downgrading to Win 10 is not an option for me since I rely on some WSL features only available in Win 11.
