Windows freezes when I first open or click on anything after startup

I have a laptop with Windows 11 on it. Haven't had any issues for a while, but in the last couple of months it will freeze sometimes. I boot up the laptop and log in to Windows. When I go to open an app or click anything really, the screen will sometimes freeze or go black. I have the spinning circle cursor sometimes but I am unable to do anything. I let it sit for a while and nothing changed. I reboot and sometimes have to go through a few reboots before it no longer freezes.

I double-checked and Windows is up to date. I didn't install anything new shortly before the issue started happening. I tried doing a repair and got a message that it ran into a problem and couldn't be repaired.

Anyone else have this issue and/or suggestions on what I should check?

This usually happens when too many programs are loading during startup or when the system is still finishing background processes. When Windows first starts, apps, drivers, and updates may load at the same time, which can cause temporary freezing. You can try disabling unnecessary startup programs from Task Manager, checking for Windows updates, and running a disk cleanup or antivirus scan. After reducing startup load, the system usually becomes smoother right after boot.
