Windows 11 Suddenly Started to Resize and Move my Open Windows Position
How to fix that? Even IDM that I always put in the right corner would be moved on the left side of the screen, never had that problem? It seems to appeared after upgrading to 24H2. It usually happens after monitor turns screen off after some time, but I think that I saw that happening even randomly.
This issue is likely related to how Windows 11 handles multi-monitor setups or power-saving features after the upgrade to 24H2. Here are some potential fixes:
- Disable "Snap Windows":
- Go to Settings > System > Multitasking.
- Turn off "Snap windows" to stop Windows from automatically repositioning your open windows.
- Check Display Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Display.
- Ensure your display settings, such as resolution and scaling, are correct for your monitor.
- If you're using multiple monitors, set one as the primary display to prevent windows from moving unexpectedly.
- Disable "Snap Windows":

If your device is a 2-in-1 laptop or tablet, it might be switching to Tablet Mode, which can cause windows to resize or rearrange automatically.

No, my device is not a 2-in-1 laptop or Tablet.

This is NOT solved.
Here is a summary of a similar problem on my computer:
Windows 11 23H2 moves apps and pop-up windows to top left of screen. This is on a Dell Precision laptop, with 2 external monitors connected via dock.
Whenever a new app is opened, it opens on the primary screen, regardless what screen the app was opened and closed last. Similarly, any pop-up windows such as print dialog, are automatically moved to top left of primary screen.
Similarly, any in-app message windows, breadcrums (SolidWorks) appear on the primary screen whilst the app is on a second screen.
- System > Multiple displays > "Remember window location based on monitor connection" is Checked.
- System > Display > Display scale is set at 100% for all screens.
- System > Multi-tasking > Snap windows is ON
- Running Windows 11 23H2, all updates up to date.
- Have performed "Reinstall".
- None of the above fixed the problem.
Problem occurs with or without external monitors connected.
Problem only started mid January 2025 (2-3 weeks ago).
- Updated to 24H2, problem persists.

With only a single monitor configuration, this problem persists despite the advice provided here and on other websites, affecting any open windows before sleep / hibernation.

Agree with Morphie, this is not resolved. Here is my experience:
Single 32:9 wide screen monitor on DP. Resolution is the recommended, Scale is the recommended. Snap is enabled and used all day without issue. When the monitor goes to sleep and is woken up I see the initial login screen reload in the top-left of the screen, maybe 1080p, it's hard to tell, but after a second or two it resizes back to the 32:9 at 1440p. It is absolutely loading the desktop in the wrong resolution. It reminds me of what happens if I've used my phone or tablet to RDP to my desktop between uses or if there were a screensaver loading full screen at a different resolution and when I return it has to switch the monitor resolution back, except that in those cases the screen is centered and stretched or centered with black bars, with the current issue it is loading a much smaller resolution in the top left corner. - MorphieCopper Contributor
This is NOT solved. Windows get resized even after these fixes. As the OP said, usually after windows hibernates.
- Disable "Snap Windows":
