Windows 11 breaks itself with TPM

I have to boot into Windows, I have just done a BIOS update as one of two things I have to do, so I set my BIOS settings back to what they were, Boot into windows and get the message regarding PIN number relating to a PIN change - BIOS update yeah yeah - whatever.

My next step is to boot into safe mode and run DDU to remove my current display driver which is having an issue so I hold down shift and go through that process.

When the system starts in safe mode however it complains about my  PIN not being valid OMG here we go again.

So I go to change my PIN again to shut it up and get on with it and it says there was a problem and to try again later - I don't want to try later.

Long story short - I tried everything to get back into windows without busting something and in the end the only way out was to boot onto a windows memory stick start up a command line, go to the drive which is normally drive C: but is now drive H: and do this:

Because of this problem users could be locked out from entering safe mode - *Bit of a bug here don't you think??*

bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot

  • Attempting to boot into safe mode should have been straightforward, but the PIN prompt can be a real roadblock. It’s frustrating when you just want to get to troubleshooting your display drivers, and Windows throws an authentication hurdle at you first.
