Where to change the location of saved screenshot from snipping tool?

In Windows 10, it was easy to access the notification panel in the bottom-right corner to crop, edit, and save these images. However, I've noticed that this feature is missing in Windows 11. Can anyone guide me on how to access my screenshots for saving? I’m unable to paste them directly into the application I’m using. Thank you!

  • If you have auto save ON, in snipping tool, every screenshot goes to a folder called Gallery in File Explorer.

    Specifically, it's: C:\Users\{username}\Pictures\Screenshots\

Here is the solution: Launch the snipping tool and go to settings. Look for the second option, Automatically save original screenshots. Under this option, you can click Change and choose the location for screenshots.

In Windows 11, the screenshot process has changed a bit. Here’s how you can access and save them:

    1. Win + Print Screen: Automatically saves the screenshot to the Screenshots folder in your Pictures directory.
    2. Print Screen (PrtScn): Copies the screenshot to the clipboard. You can paste it into apps like Paint, Word, or any image editor by pressing Ctrl + V, then save it.
    3. Win + Shift + S: Opens the Snipping Tool for a custom screenshot. After taking the snip, click the notification that appears to edit and save it.

If you’re not seeing the notification, check the Snipping Tool app directly—it should have your most recent screenshot!

In Windows 11, screenshots don’t show up in the notification panel like in Windows 10. Instead, they’re automatically saved to the Screenshots folder (found in Pictures) if you use Win + Print Screen. If you’re using PrtScn without a shortcut, paste the screenshot into an app like Paint or Word first, then save it from there.

For quick edits, try Win + Shift + S to open Snipping Tool—it lets you crop and save directly. Hope this helps! 😊😀

My issue is that the "quick edits" method of Win+shift+S is NOT allowing me to select the area I want to snip and/or crop directly! It's doing the full immediate screenshot and saving it to Pictures. How can I get it to work like it did in Win10, where I could select a PORTION of the screen and have it save to my Clipboard? Anyone know? If have turned the autosave off.

  • Windows 11 changed things up a bit! After taking a screenshot (Windows+Shift+S), check the clipboard or the pop-up in the bottom-right corner to click and edit/save. If that doesn’t show, open the Snipping Tool app—it saves recent snips there. Does that help?
