Turn on virus protection notification pops up every single startup
Hi Microsoft Community! I've been having the "Turn on virus protection" notification pop up every single time I turn on my PC. I uninstalled McAfee a few years ago and enabled Windows Defender. The OS does not seem to recognize this change and thinks Windows Defender is still disabled. Any help would be appreciated.

Opening the Windows Security app and running a "Quick scan" can sometimes refresh the app's status and clear the notification.

You mentioned this notification appears at startup and you have Windows Defender on. If you've confirmed Defender is active and protecting your PC (by opening Windows Security and seeing "Virus & threat protection" is green), you may be affected by a recently confirmed Microsoft issue.
This is a known issue reported widely in forums. It might be caused by July Cumulative Update Preview or August Cumulative Updates. We may expect a fix from September Cumulative Updates.
If Windows Security is already enabled, you don't need to worry. This issue may be fixed by updates automatically, without requiring any action from you.

Hope this helps!
