Screen goes black

I have 3 monitors, when I go from no.1 monitor to number 2 or 3 my no.1 main monitor blacks out. What could be causing this?

  • 1. Rapid emergency response
    Wake up screen key combination:
Press Win + Ctrl + Shift + B (to reset the graphics card driver)
Press Win + P to check if the projection mode is mistakenly set to “Second Screen Only”.
    2. Power hard reset:
Press and hold the power button for 40 seconds (for laptops, unplug the charger).
Wait for 1 minute and reboot
    3. Common Causes and Fixes
    Scenario A: External Monitor Problems
    Unplug all external monitors/docking stations.
Press Win + P → select “Computer Screen Only” after powering on the computer.
Situation B: Graphics card driver failure
Press F8 continuously to enter Safe Mode when booting up
    4. Uninstall the graphics card driver:
Right click Start Menu → Device Manager → Expand “Display Adapters”.
Right-click on the graphics card → Uninstall Device → check “Try to remove the driver”.
Reboot and let Windows install the base driver automatically
    Scenario C: System update conflict
Force shutdown 3 times Enter recovery environment
Select Troubleshooting → Advanced Options → Uninstall Updates
Prioritize the uninstallation of recent quality updates
    5. Advanced Solutions
     Disable Fast Startup:
Open Control Panel → Power Options
Click on “Select Power Button Functionality”
Uncheck “Enable fast startup” → Save changes
    6. Check Event Viewer:
    Press Win + R and type eventvwr.msc
    View Windows logs → System
Filter Event ID 41 (Unexpected Shutdown) or 6008 (Error Shutdown)
    7. Hardware Diagnostics
    Basic test:
    Connecting an External Monitor Test
Listen to the computer for boot-up sounds (to determine if it is just a display problem)
Check the status of the laptop's breathing light
    8. Signs of serious hardware problems:
Fan spinning wildly but no display
Black screen after multiple forced restarts
    Smell the burning odor
    9. Preventive measures
Update the graphics card driver regularly (via Device Manager or manufacturer's website).
    Avoid using unofficial power adapters
Set System Restore Point (Win + R type sysdm.cpl → System Protection)
