Need help

I need some help with an issue I'm facing regarding the delete confirmation dialogue for my online-only files. I’ve noticed that when I try to delete files that are stored online, I don’t get the usual confirmation prompt asking if I’m sure I want to delete them. It’s kind of concerning because I want to avoid accidentally deleting something important.

You might choose the "Don't ask me again" option in the past!

If you are unable to resolve the issue, and it seems like a bug or a missing feature, don’t hesitate to reach out to the customer support or help center of the application or service you are using. They may offer solutions or be able to fix the issue in future updates.

  • Hello,

The issue described concerns deleting online-only files (files stored in the cloud but not downloaded locally). When deleting these files, they are permanently removed from the PC without going to the Recycle Bin, and you may not see the confirmation prompt.

    Re-enable the Delete Confirmation Dialog

If you checked "Don't ask me again," you can reset this setting:

    • Open File Explorer.
    • Right-click the Recycle Bin and select Properties.
    • Enable the option Display delete confirmation dialog.
    • Click OK.

    Check OneDrive or Cloud Settings

    • Ensure that your cloud service (e.g., OneDrive) is not bypassing the dialog:

    Open OneDrive Settings:

    • Right-click the OneDrive icon in the system tray.
    • Go to Settings > Sync and Backup.

Confirm whether there’s an option related to deleting online-only files.

    • For Google Drive or Dropbox, check their respective settings for deletion behavior.

Set Files to Always Be Available Locally

To avoid losing track of online-only files:

    • In File Explorer, right-click the folder or file.
    • Select Always keep on this device. This ensures a local copy is stored and that deleted files move to the Recycle Bin.
