Messenger crashes as soon as launched
New laptop March 2023, within a week of using it Messenger stopped working. It opens, flashes a black rectangle in the bottom left of the window saying No Internet, then crashes anywhere from a couple of seconds to maybe 10 seconds. Have googled and googled and tried every option I can find. Nothing else playing up, just Messenger.
Options tried includes clearing cache, deleting data, reinstalling etc etc. Only option has been to use a Browser tab. I use it for work as I work remotely so this is not ideal! It did suddenly work for a week or so when rebooted, then back to not working.
Anyone had similar and found an answer?
Machine is a Dell Inspiron 2in1 16in laptop, running all OEM stuff, Windows 11 Pro with all updates
Cheers, Dave.

Hi JustAskDave ,
Try creating a new Windows profile to see if the issue persist.
Also, you will have to check event logs, Open Event viewer > Windows log > Application. Scroll to the event of the affected application, take a screenshot and attach it here.I look forward to your response on Creating the new Windows profile and the event view logs.

Hi, thanks for the reply, is this what you are looking for?
I haven't created a new profile yet, this is my work computer and I haven't had time and dont want to screw it up!
EDIT: I have been googling the fault code and found many others with the same issue, one suggestion was to run Messenger in compatability mode, the 'No Internet' box does not come up but it still crashes within a few seconds. Others also suggested the new profile, this was also reported as a short term fix lasting a few days or weeks then the fault returned in that profile. Not sure what to do now.
I have tried the repair app, reset app, cleaning up temp folders, uninstalling and reinstalling, removing registry entries, Windows Repair, all updates are up to date. When I do a full clean install it works for a day or two at most then just crashes and will not run again.

I have this problem too! When Messenger would not work after the startup of Windows 11 or even after starting it manually. In my case, the Messenger app never stops "Getting Started" loading, so I don't know if it would work for other cases. My solution is manually killing Microsoft Edge in Task Manager (msedge.exe). Sometimes, I have to end the task the msedgewebview2.exe until the Messenger stops spinning. (For me, msedgewebview2.exe would always come back. So I have to spam end tasks to all of them until it works.)
I discovered this issue when I tried using RPCS3 when having Microsoft Edge on. The app would work properly if I ran the RPCS3 app without Edge on or after immediately exiting Edge. (Chrome also caused this, in my case.)PS. Ending the task of msedgewebview2.exe does not endanger any of my apps because it would grow back up like Hydra, and I never understand why.
- JustAskDave1990Copper ContributorAn update. 9 months later and still not working, but Laptop had issues and was sent in to have the trackpad replaed for a third time. This time they also replaced the motherboard and then reloaded windows, wiping out everything I had installed and setup - pretty peaved at that... But anyway, one good thing out of it is now Messenger works!
