M Service Failed to Start
Hi,
I'm getting the following error which seems to be causing my PC to freeze and it can only be unfrozen by powering off/on:
'The M service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.'
Using the registry editor I found the following:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\M
I noticed that the ImagePath data is set to C
Can anyone shed any light on what the M service is and how to rectify this?
Regards,
Rich

Thank you for your replies.
How can I identify which application has installed the 'M' service and what is the best way to remove it please?

'The M service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.'—indicates that Windows is attempting to start a service called "M," but it cannot locate the executable file associated with it. Having the ImagePath set to just "C" in the registry suggests that the service's path is incorrectly configured or has been corrupted.

Many thanks for your reply. What would be the best way to identify where this has come from and if necessary remove it please?

The "M" service is not a standard Windows service. It could be a legitimate service from third-party software, or it could be malware or residual junk left behind by malicious activity or improper uninstallation.
