Location shifted automatically, though I am in the same place.

Dear All

I am using

Edition Windows 11 Pro

Version              25H2

Installed on      ‎11/‎24/‎2024

OS build            26200.7309

Experience       Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.275.0

Over the last couple of days, my location service/time zone has automatically shifted to China from my current location/time zone, though I am in the same place (at my office desk). When it does that, it shows a notification that, due to a location shift, the time zone has been shifted to China.

After the incident, if I manually change the location/time zone and then enable it again, it works fine, but after a couple of hours, it behaves weirdly and shifts back to China.

Can anyone suggest to me what could go wrong? I don’t think it is a BIOS battery; if it is, it should change the time, not the location/time zone.

Hope it is not any malware?

Can anyone suggest how to troubleshoot and find the actual cause?

I had the same issue before — Windows kept shifting location even when I didn’t move. What worked for me was turning off and then turning on Location Services: Settings → Privacy & security → Location → toggle off → wait 10-15 seconds → toggle on.

If that doesn’t help, try resetting the Location cache: open Command Prompt (admin) and run:

    ipconfig /flushdns

Then restart your PC. It fixed the wrong location problem for me.
