Line under app icon in taskbar after app is closed
Randomly when I close an application that I have pinned to my taskbar in Windows 11 there is a grey bar under the icon. The screen shot shows this happening with MS edge. I have noticed it in Chrome and word also. If I click on edge it will open and then if I close it again the line will go away. Why is there a line under it when I close it? This does not happen every time.
Thank you

It indicates that the application is still running or is in a suspended state.
Open Task Manager → Find Windows Explorer → Right-click → Restart. This refreshes taskbar.
Open Command Prompt as Admin and copy-paste the following command:
ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache
If required Disable Fast Startup.
Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does > Change settings that are currently unavailable > Uncheck "Turn on fast startup" > Reboot.
Make sure Windows is updated.

Same exact issue here. I can see lots of reports about this that are more than a year old. Hopefully, Microsoft will pick up on this and fix it soon.

1. Restart Explorer: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
Find “Windows Explorer”, right-click on it and select “Restart”.
2. Check for Windows updates: Open “Settings” > “Update and Security” > “Windows Update”.
Click “Check for Updates” to install all available updates.
3. Reset Taskbar Settings: Open Settings > Personalization > Taskbar.
Turn off the “Lock Taskbar” option and then re-enable it.
4. To reset the taskbar using PowerShell: Open PowerShell (with administrator privileges).
Run the following command:
powershell
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
5. Contact Microsoft Support: If none of the above methods work, it is recommended to contact the Microsoft Support team with detailed error messages and screenshots for further assistance.
