Floating performance Window 11

In past week a floating transparent window has arrived on my desktop , giving real-time information on my PC hardware, I do not know what program is generating it ... there seems no option to close or move it, Anybody know what creates this?

  • The floating transparent window showing real-time hardware information is likely caused by a program like MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner Statistics Server, or a similar monitoring tool.

    Fix:

    1. Check Running Processes: Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and look for hardware monitoring apps.
    2. Disable Overlay: Open the suspected app (e.g., MSI Afterburner) and disable the on-screen display (OSD) in its settings.
    3. Uninstall Unwanted Apps: If unsure, review recent app installations in Settings > Apps and remove unfamiliar ones.

If you still can’t identify it, a clean boot may help isolate the app.

    Hello,

The floating transparent performance window on your desktop, showing real-time hardware information, is likely being generated by a performance monitoring tool or overlay enabled on your system.

    Xbox Game Bar Performance Overlay:

    • Windows 10 and 11 include an Xbox Game Bar that has a performance overlay to display real-time CPU, GPU, RAM, and FPS data.
    • Shortcut to toggle: Win + G.
    • If you accidentally enabled the overlay, it may appear as a floating performance window.

    How to Disable:

    • Press Win + G to open the Game Bar.
    • Look for the Performance widget and close it by clicking the X in its corner.
    • To prevent it from reappearing:
        • Open Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar.
        • Toggle off the Xbox Game Bar.

    Third-Party Performance Monitoring Software:

    • Tools like MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner, NZXT CAM, or HWMonitor often have overlays that display system metrics.
    • Check for any of these applications installed on your system.

    How to Disable:

      • Open the respective software.
      • Look for an "Overlay" or "On-Screen Display" setting and disable it.

    Graphics Driver Overlay (NVIDIA/AMD/Intel):

    • Graphics drivers often come with overlays for monitoring or performance tracking:
      • NVIDIA GeForce Experience has an in-game overlay (Alt + Z).
      • AMD Radeon Software includes a performance overlay.
      • Intel Arc Control may also have similar features.

    How to Disable:

    • NVIDIA GeForce Experience:
        • Open GeForce Experience (Alt + Z).
        • Go to Settings > HUD Layout and turn off the overlay.
    • AMD Radeon Software:
        • Open AMD Radeon Software.
        • Navigate to Performance > Overlay and toggle it off.
    • Intel Arc Control:
        • Open Intel Arc Control and look for overlay settings to disable.

    Overclocking or PC Monitoring Tools:

    • If you use tools like Corsair iCUE, ASUS Armoury Crate, or MSI Dragon Center, they may have enabled a hardware monitoring overlay.

    How to Disable:

    • Open the software and check for any monitoring widget or overlay settings.

    Potential Malware or Rogue Software:

    • In rare cases, the window could be caused by rogue software.
    • Run a full system scan with Windows Security or a third-party antivirus program like Malwarebytes.
