File explorer open tabs behaviour
Currently, in Windows 11 File Explorer, tabs are supported, but there is no native option to automatically switch to a newly opened tab. When you use "Open in new tab" (via right-click or middle-click), the new tab opens in the background, and File Explorer remains on the current tab.
This behavior is by design, and at this time, there is no setting in File Explorer to change it.
Alternative:
If you require more advanced tab behavior, including automatically switching to new tabs, you might consider using third-party file manager applications such as Files (available in Microsoft Store) or Directory Opus, which offer more customization.
I understand this may not be ideal, but hopefully future Windows updates will offer more flexibility in tab management.
