Can duplicate files on the C drive of the Windows11 system be deleted?

I don't know why my computer's local disk C automatically copies itself to the desktop (i.e., files on the C drive appear as duplicates on the desktop). Now I'm wondering if it's safe and risk-free to delete these duplicate files from the desktop. I'm worried that I might accidentally delete important data, so I want to confirm this before taking action.
