Best way to cast iPhone screen to Mac as iPhone mirroring app not working
Hello,
The iPhone Mirroring app is not working properly on my MacBook, so I am trying to find the best way to cast or mirror my iPhone screen to my Mac instead. I expected the built-in option to work, but it does not connect or does not respond the way it should.
I would appreciate some guidance on the best method to cast iPhone screen to Macbook. Is the official iPhone Mirroring feature the best option when it works, or are there other reliable ways to cast an iPhone screen to Mac, such as AirPlay or a USB connection? I am looking for a stable method with clear steps.

These two hardware-based methods—the capture card and the Lightning-to-HDMI adapter—allow you to cast iphone to macbook with zero latency and high quality. They are ideal for stable offline mirroring scenarios and represent the most reliable hardware solutions for professional use.
User Guide:
Purchase the necessary hardware:
- Apple Lightning to Digital AV Adapter ($49)
- USB HDMI capture card (approx. $20–$50)
- Connect the Lightning to HDMI adapter to your iPhone.
- Connect the adapter to the capture card using an HDMI cable.
- Connect the capture card to your MacBook via USB.
- On your Mac, open QuickTime Player → New Movie Recording → Select the capture card as the camera source.
- The iPhone screen will appear on your Mac with no noticeable lag.
Advantages: This type of hardware screen-mirroring solution delivers high-quality, near-zero-latency mirroring that does not rely on a network connection at all; its stability and image quality meet the demands of professional settings.
Disadvantages: However, they require the purchase of a capture card and a Lightning-to-HDMI adapter, which increases costs, and the multi-cable setup significantly reduces portability.
Overall, while this hardware solution involves some compromises in terms of cost and portability, its advantages in latency and image quality are unmatched by software solutions, making it the optimal choice for cast iphone to macbook when professional-grade performance is required.

Fast Cast is a free utility app, available on both the iOS App Store and the Mac App Store, that was specifically built to help you cast iPhone screen to Mac (or to other devices like iPads and iMacs) . It is designed to be an "easy-to-use screen casting application" for situations exactly like yours—when the built-in Apple mirroring tools aren't working or aren't available.
The developer describes it as straightforward: you install it on both your iPhone and your Mac, and it handles the connection between them.
The process to cast iPhone screen to Mac using Fast Cast is fairly simple, based on the official feature list:
Step 1 – Download the apps
Step 2 – Open both apps
Step 3 – Connect and mirror
Use the iPhone app to scan for your Mac device
Once detected, start the screen projection
Your iPhone screen should appear on your Mac display
The app includes three main features that are relevant for you :
1. Scan and project – The iPhone app can discover your Mac automatically
2. Network-less support – This is a big one; it works even without a WiFi network connection
3. Recording and screenshots – The Mac client lets you capture video or still images of your mirrored screen (though this is more of a bonus than a core need for simple casting)
The most important thing about Fast Cast—and the reason it might work when the built-in iPhone Mirroring app doesn't—is its "support for network-less environment for projection".

Google Meet is a cross-platform video conferencing tool, but it does not support cast iphone to macbook directly without an internet connection, as it only works when both devices are connected to the same meeting room.
It allows you to mirror your iPhone screen to your Mac quickly, but using this feature requires a stable network connection.
First, open your browser on your Mac, go to the official website, and click “Start a New Meeting.” Then, open the app on your iPhone and join the meeting using the same meeting code.
Once you have joined the meeting, tap the three dots on your iPhone → Select "Share screen". Your iPhone screen will then appear in the meeting window on your Mac.
Once sharing is complete, you can stop the screen share at any time from your iPhone.
This method cannot be used to cast iphone to macbook without an internet connection, so it is only suitable for users with reliable Wi-Fi or cellular data.
If you don’t want to use other third-party software, you can try this method. This is a simple but network-dependent solution, so you should make sure your connection is stable before proceeding.

If you want a stable connection without any lag or quality loss, this is the best free method available. QuickTime Player is already installed on your Mac, and you don't need to download anything extra. Using QuickTime Player to cast iPhone screen to Mac is a straightforward way to mirror your iPhone's display on your computer. This method allows you to view and interact with your iPhone screen directly on your Mac, which is useful for demonstrations, troubleshooting, or recording your screen.
Here's how it works: you connect your iPhone to your Mac using a Lightning cable, then open QuickTime Player. In QuickTime, you select the option to create a new movie recording, and from the recording options, you choose your iPhone as the video source. Once selected, your iPhone screen will appear on your Mac, effectively casting iPhone screen to Mac in real-time.
This process is simple, no additional software is needed, and it works seamlessly for most users. Just make sure your iPhone is unlocked and trusted by your Mac, and that QuickTime Player is open and ready to capture the video.

FaceTime is a free screen-casting tool built into the Apple ecosystem. Leveraging the native SharePlay feature, it requires no additional software installation and is easy to set up, allowing you to cast iphone to macbook quickly and reliably. It’s ideal for Apple users who need to cast content between devices on the fly.
How to cast iphone to macbook
Step 1: Open FaceTime on your Mac
- Sign in with your Apple ID—it must be the same one you use on your iPhone
- Initiate a FaceTime call by dialing your own Apple ID
Step 2: Answer the FaceTime call on your iPhone
- Tap the SharePlay icon → Share Screen
- Your iPhone screen will immediately appear on your Mac.
Pros
- Built into Apple devices
- Leverages native system features for high compatibility
- Secure and stable connections, optimized for the Apple ecosystem
Cons
- Must rely on stable Wi-Fi or cellular network, unavailable offline
- Has obvious screen lag and frame drop, not suitable for gaming or high refresh scenarios

Screen Sharing is a lightweight and convenient temporary solution. If you only need basic, everyday screen mirroring and don’t require ultra-low latency, this built-in feature is the most time-saving option for Apple users.

If you are comfortable using the command line, UxPlay is exactly the kind of obscure, completely free software you asked for. It is an open-source AirPlay server that turns your Mac into an Apple TV receiver.
Why this is interesting: It runs entirely in the background and uses the same AirPlay protocol that Apple devices use natively. Once set up, you can cast iPhone screen to Mac just like you would to an Apple TV.
How to install it for cast iPhone screen to Mac:
You will need to use Terminal on your Mac. Run these commands one by one:
text
brew install gstreamer
brew install libusb
git clone https //github-com/FDH2/UxPlay. git
cd UxPlay
make
./ uxplay
Once UxPlay is running, open Control Center on your iPhone, tap Screen Mirroring, and you should see your Mac listed as an available device.

Mirroring your iPhone to MacBook is surprisingly seamless these days, thanks to Apple’s built-in AirPlay to Mac feature. Gone are the days of needing clunky third-party apps just to see your phone on a bigger screen.
This is the easiest method and works perfectly for sharing photos, presentations, or just browsing.
Requirements:
- iPhone: Running iOS 15 or later.
- Mac: Running macOS Monterey or later.
- Connection: Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network and signed into the same Apple ID.
How to screen cast iPhone on MacBook wirelessly
Step 1. On your iPhone: Swipe down from the top-right corner (or up from the bottom on older models) to open the Control Center.
Step 2. Tap the Screen Mirroring icon (two overlapping rectangles).
Step 3. Select your MacBook from the list of available devices.
Step 4. If prompted, enter the AirPlay passcode that appears on your Mac’s screen.
Tip: If your Mac doesn't show up, go to System Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff on your Mac and make sure AirPlay Receiver is toggled ON.
