Best way to cast iPhone screen to Mac as iPhone mirroring app not working
If you are comfortable using the command line, UxPlay is exactly the kind of obscure, completely free software you asked for. It is an open-source AirPlay server that turns your Mac into an Apple TV receiver.
Why this is interesting: It runs entirely in the background and uses the same AirPlay protocol that Apple devices use natively. Once set up, you can cast iPhone screen to Mac just like you would to an Apple TV.
How to install it for cast iPhone screen to Mac:
You will need to use Terminal on your Mac. Run these commands one by one:
text
brew install gstreamer
brew install libusb
git clone https //github-com/FDH2/UxPlay. git
cd UxPlay
make
./ uxplay
Once UxPlay is running, open Control Center on your iPhone, tap Screen Mirroring, and you should see your Mac listed as an available device.
