A app called 't' always tries to prevent reboots and shut downs. What is it?
Whenever I try to reboot or shut down my laptop, for a few seconds I see this message:
t
This app is preventing you from restarting.
I've looked on the task manager but I can't find any apps named 't' running on the background, I've also done a full scan for viruses, nothing.
Any ideas? Thank you.
SOLUTION : Do you use Logi Options+ , in my case problem was Options+ when I uninstall it and install Options (which is older but have no issue with shutdown) problem solved.

Hi,
This message is due to the Logitech software not shutting down the "logioptionsplus_agent.exe" at windows shutdown or reboot.
Use the Windows Task Sheduler to kill the "logioptionsplus_agent.exe" at shutdown or reboot.
Open taskschd.msc
Create new basic task
Make sure "Run with highest privileges" is checked
Tasktrigger - When a specific event is logged
Log - System
Source - User32
Event ID - 1074
Actions - Start a program
Command - C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe
Arguments - /f /im logioptionsplus_agent.exe
Thats it, it works I use it.

Had a word with Logitech Support this morning as this is still not fixed. Looking at the Event Viewer System Log, I filtered the source events for "User32" and "WinSrvExt".
The User32 events with ID 1074 will have the similar following message, which is simply notification that an event was triggered to shut down the system, so expect to see this. Of course replace <PC-NAME-HERE> with the name of your PC and same for <USERID>
The process C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE (<PC-NAME-HERE>) has initiated the power off of computer <PC-NAME-HERE> on behalf of user <PC-NAME-HERE>\<USERID> for the following reason: Other (Unplanned)
Reason Code: 0x0
Shut-down Type: power off
Comment:What concerns me is the WinSrvExt events with ID 100 that will have the similar following message, with a figure usually 5000ms or more...
Process C:\Program Files\LogiOptionsPlus\logioptionsplus_agent.exe is delaying system shutdown after 5010 milliseconds.
It's clear that these 2 events appear beside each other in the event log, and that logioptionsplus_agent.exe is delaying shutdowns as well as restarts. It's Logitech's move on solving this one.

Yes still happens to me (June 2025) intermittently on new hardware and a clean install of Windows 11. Spoke to Logitech in the passed who told me it was actually to do with their older software Options but this how now been resolved. Clearly not!

For me, this still happens in June 2025, and i use a tiny batch script, admin and that's it
taskkill /f /im logioptionsplus_agent.exe
taskkill /f /im logioptionsplus_appbroker.exe
taskkill /f /im logioptionsplus_updater.execlick this .bat 3 times before doing shut down and you don't have the annoying message anymore, bit of a faff they cannot fix it for good and add a thing in scheduler themselves, but it is what it is.

- mcyenikoyluCopper ContributorIn my case, I can't remove Options+. I use a single Logi device on my two computers. This application provides this. So I expect Logitech to find a permanent solution to this problem.
- gabrio-81Brass Contributorthis is my current "fix"
Create .bat file, put this in it:
taskkill /f /im logioptionsplus_agent.exe
taskkill /f /im logioptionsplus_appbroker.exe
taskkill /f /im logioptionsplus_updater.exe
Execute as admin, click before shut down. Problem solved, no more T, my desktop PC shuts down and restarts in 1 second now.
I've just let Logitech know as well, put a bloody silent task kill in shutdown processes no? so simple.

I don't know why but for me when I restart my pc, when the prompt "there are apps preventing you from restarting" pops up and I press "cancel" so I can go back and save/close my work and find the problem too, when I press "cancel" it restarts anyway. I'm pretty sure I think the "cancel" button isn't supposed to do the same thing as the "restart anyway" button. EliasPoveda
its all very strange. does any one else have the same problem with the cancel button I'm having
something has been fishy about windows ever since win 11 and just recently as well

Hello,
this T program is a service usued by Option+ Logitech. my advise is to setup your keyboard and mouse shortcuts and settings after that you need to go msconfig via windows search and go to Services tab and disable Option+. by rebooting your os the issue should be gone.
thanks
RK I am seeing this too for ages now (2022?).what's your options+ version you said would fix this?
Mine is 1.50.447400. Bolt is not present.

Karl-WEI uninstalled Logitech HUB
- not installed here 😕 The version stated is the latest, too. I believe an older version created something and only upgrading it won't fix it.

EliasPoveda It has something to do with Logitech software there new update

hi, i have that too but only on my Mx3 with Unifying device on my laptop.
I also have a Mx3s on my main PC via BOLT device and that one doesn't show the "T" upon restart & shutdown.
Just went through some uninstall procedure as instructed by logitech support, it doesn't happen all the time though.

EliasPoveda t like as in a letter representation of the MSI afterburner jetfighter icon maybe... That is what i am 99% sure it is. Mine started right after installing MSI afterburner for my RTX graphics card.

I too had this problem, nice to know someone figured it out. But now what? Did you all just delete the Options+ program and are not using it or did you reinstall and the problem is gone, or not?

Hey! I just set up my new gaming PC and got the same "t app" error... So no. It's not fixed yet by Logitech... Weak.
