Windows 10 keeps changing my logon picture

Windows 10 keeps changing my local logon picture to my wife's picture.

My wife has a separate local logon on our desktop computers, as well as on our laptop computers.

We both have our own separate Microsoft accounts based on our separate email address. Both of our Microsoft accounts display the correct picture.

We both log onto whatever computer we are using locally, not through Microsoft.

There are no pictures in the picture history directories.

I would really like to know how to fix this.

I've stopped sync on both Edge and Chrome. That seems to be causing other problems - freezing both browsers.

  • Under Settings > Account > Your information, click Browse files to reselect your local account picture, and ensure the option to obtain interesting facts, tips, etc. from Windows is not enabled.

Thanks to everyone who responded, but this was solved two years ago.

This usually happens because Windows is syncing account info across users, even when you sign in with local accounts.

Most common cause is Microsoft account sync, not Edge or Chrome.

    Try this:

    • Go to Settings → Accounts → Sync your settings

Turn Sync settings OFF (especially Theme and Other Windows settings) on both accounts.

    • Go to Settings → Accounts → Your info

Make sure each account is set to Local account, not “Sign in with a Microsoft account instead”.

    • Reset your account picture manually
    1. Go to Settings → Accounts → Your info
    2. Set your picture again
    3. Restart the PC
    • Optional (if it keeps happening):

    Delete cached account images:

    C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\AccountPictures

Then reboot and set the picture again.

    Summary:

Windows is reusing synced account data between users. Turning off Windows sync (not browser sync) and resetting the account picture usually fixes it.

The default user account picture images are in the hidden system folder below.

    %ProgramData%\Microsoft\User Account Pictures

Your current user account picture is stored in the hidden folder below.

C:\Users\Public\Public Account Pictures\S-1-5-21.......(GUID for user account)

Settings -> Personalization. Set the Waller paper to a picture instead of slideshow by default.

This is similar to customizing your player profile in a game. Manually setting your picture and turning off features like Fun facts is like adjusting your avatar and disabling optional overlays or notifications you get a cleaner, more https://bowmastermodapk.org/ without distractions. It keeps your profile looking exactly how you want and avoids extra clutter while navigating the system.
