Windows 10 keeps changing my logon picture
- Jan 20, 2026
Under Settings > Account > Your information, click Browse files to reselect your local account picture, and ensure the option to obtain interesting facts, tips, etc. from Windows is not enabled.
This usually happens because Windows is syncing account info across users, even when you sign in with local accounts.
Most common cause is Microsoft account sync, not Edge or Chrome.
Try this:
- Go to Settings → Accounts → Sync your settings
Turn Sync settings OFF (especially Theme and Other Windows settings) on both accounts.
- Go to Settings → Accounts → Your info
Make sure each account is set to Local account, not “Sign in with a Microsoft account instead”.
- Reset your account picture manually
- Go to Settings → Accounts → Your info
- Set your picture again
- Restart the PC
- Optional (if it keeps happening):
Delete cached account images:
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\AccountPictures
Then reboot and set the picture again.
Summary:
Windows is reusing synced account data between users. Turning off Windows sync (not browser sync) and resetting the account picture usually fixes it.
