Possible to downgrade ios 26 to 18 without a computer as I don't like it

My iPhone 16 Pro Max was upgraded to iOS 26 one week ago, and honestly, I can't stand it. The battery life is terrible, the phone feels laggy, and I'm just not happy with the changes. I really want to go back to iOS 18 before I completely lose my mind. I've been looking around online and I see a lot of conflicting information.

I understand that downgrading isn't as simple as just hitting a undo button. What is the safest way to downgrade iOS 26 to 18 with or without a computer? I saw a few guides about using iTunes, but I've also seen suggestions for third-party tools . I'm not super tech-savvy, so I'm looking for the method with the lowest chance of "bricking" my phone.

I ran into the same issue after updating my iPhone to iOS 26 beta. The battery drained extremely fast and a few apps kept crashing. I tried the normal downgrade with Finder and IPSW, but Apple kept throwing the "firmware not signed" error. It was frustrating because the device became almost unusable.

After digging around some tech forums, I found a tool called Fixppo that can downgrade the iOS system automatically. What I liked is that it downloads the correct firmware for the device and performs the downgrade without using complicated commands or jailbreak.

Downgrading iOS from a newer version like iOS 26 to an older version like iOS 18 typically requires using a computer and official firmware files, and Apple generally only signs firmware for the current and sometimes the previous iOS versions. Without a computer, the options are very limited, and there’s no officially supported way to downgrade iOS directly on the device for free.

Why is downgrading without a computer difficult?

    • Apple stops signing older iOS versions shortly after a new release. This means you can only restore to an iOS version that Apple is still signing.
    • Without a computer, you cannot use iTunes (or Finder on Mac) to manually install an older firmware.
    • Third-party tools often require a computer and might be risky or unreliable, especially for major downgrades.
    • The safest and most reliable method to downgrade iOS is with a computer and the correct firmware file, ensuring your device is supported, and Apple is signing that firmware.
    • Without a computer, downgrading is practically impossible unless Apple is still signing the older iOS version.

How to downgrade ios 26 to 18?

    • There are third-party tools claiming to allow downgrades without a computer, but these are often risky, unreliable, or potentially unsafe.
    • Many of these methods involve jailbreaking or using unofficial software, which can brick your device or cause other issues.
    • It's best to avoid these methods if you're not very tech-savvy and want to reduce the chance of "bricking" your phone.

The safest and most reliable way about how to downgrade ios 26 to 18:

    • Use a computer (Mac or Windows) to download the appropriate iOS 18 firmware (IPSW file) from trusted sources like ipsw.me.
    • Then, connect your iPhone to the computer and use iTunes or Finder to restore it to iOS 18.Note: This process only works if Apple is still signing iOS 18.

Immediately downgrade ios 26 to 18. Often, this is misleading because downgrading is now quite difficult. However, I have a little trick that allows your iPhone to remain usable throughout the entire downgrade process.

    1.Reduce Liquid Glass Stress

    • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size
    • Turn ON Reduce Transparency
    • This replaces translucent menus with solid backgrounds and reduces processor load.

    2.Fix Laggy Animations

    • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion
    • Turn ON Reduce Motion
    • This disables heavy animations that cause slowdowns.

    3.The Clean Slate

    • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset
    • Tap Reset All Settings
    • This will not delete photos or data, but fixes system glitches that cause battery drain and lag.

These are merely temporary performance improvements. The only permanent solution is to downgrade ios 26 to 18 via computer using certain third-party software.
