How to transfer contacts from iPhone to iPhone without Apple ID?

Hi all,

I just got another iPhone and need to move all contacts from the old device to the new one. The problem is that I don't want to use Apple ID or iCloud for this transfer.

I looked at a few guides already, but most of them require iCloud sync or signing into the same Apple account on both phones. I would rather use a direct method with a PC, cable, or something offline if possible. Is it possible to transfer contacts from iPhone to iPhone without Apple ID?

Both iPhones still work normally, and I have access to a Windows 11 laptop if needed. What is the easiest way to copy contacts from one iPhone to another without Apple ID?

  • Transferring contacts from iPhone to iPhone after setup is a common task, but Apple only provides 5GB of free iCloud storage. If your iCloud storage is full, your contacts will not sync to the cloud or to your new device.

Transferring contacts from one iPhone to another without using an Apple account can be quite challenging, especially if you want to accomplish this entirely through the file browser. But here you will find a way on how to transfer contacts from iPhone to iPhone.

How to transfer contacts from iPhone to iPhone:

    1. Connect the old iPhone to the computer

First, you need to physically connect the old iPhone to the computer via a USB data cable. You will need a file manager that can access the iPhone's storage space, or use a dedicated tool.

    2. Access the iPhone's file system

In the Windows system, you can try using File Explorer to access the internal storage space of the iPhone. However, iOS has restrictions on system files, so usually, using regular tools is not able to achieve direct access to these files.

    3. Search for contact data

Contact information is stored in the iOS system database and does not exist as independent files that can be accessed through File Explorer. Therefore, using standard File Explorer methods cannot directly allow you to view or copy contact information.

    4. How to transfer contacts from one iPhone to another

Connect the new iPhone to the computer. Use File Explorer to copy the.vcf file to the device's storage space, or directly import it in the "Files" application of the iOS system. Open the vcf file on the new iPhone, and it should prompt you to add the contacts.

Transfer a contact from one iPhone to another without using an Apple account, this can be quite tricky, especially if you want to complete this operation entirely through the file browser.

    1. Insert the SIM card containing contacts into your iPhone. Make sure the SIM card fits properly in the tray.

    2. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

    3. Tap "Apps" (on iOS 17 and later), then tap "Contacts" .

    4. Scroll down and tap "Import SIM Contacts" .

    5. If prompted, choose where you want to import the contacts.

    6. Wait for the import to complete. For around 100 contacts, this typically takes 10-20 seconds.

    7. Open the Contacts app to verify that all contacts have been imported successfully.

Use iTunes to create a full backup of your old iPhone on a computer, then restoring that backup onto the new iPhone. This is free but time consuming approach for transferring contacts from iPhone to new iPhone without iCloud after setup.

Connect the old iPhone, trust the computer when prompted, then click "Back Up Now" to save everything, including contacts, to your computer.

Once the backup is done, disconnect the old iPhone and connect the new one. In iTunes, select "Restore Backup" and choose the backup you just made.

Keep in mind this restores everything from the old phone — apps, settings, messages, and contacts so it's best suited for people setting up a brand new iPhone rather than just moving contacts selectively.

The new iPhone should also be on the same or newer iOS version as the old one for the restore to work smoothly.

Google Contacts is a reliable method to transfer contacts from iphone to iphone without icloud, but it does not require an iCloud account, as it only needs a free Google account.

It allows you to sync contacts automatically in the background, but using this feature requires signing into the same Google account on both devices.

First, on your old iPhone, go to Settings → Contacts → Accounts → Add Account, select Google, sign in to your account, and turn on Contacts sync.

On your new iPhone, go to Settings → Contacts → Accounts → Add Account, sign in with the same Google account, and turn on Contacts sync. The contacts will sync automatically between the two devices.

Once sync is complete, all contacts will appear on your new iPhone, and you can manage them through Google Contacts.

This method is a practical way to transfer contacts from iphone to iphone without icloud, so it is only suitable for users who are willing to use a Google account for syncing.

If you don’t want to use iCloud or third-party apps, you can try this method. It works reliably in the background, so you don’t need to manually transfer files.

    Advantages

    • Provides permanent cloud backup for contacts
    • Supports remote operation; no need to keep both devices nearby

    Disadvantages

    • Requires a stable internet connection
    • Requires a Google account to use
    • Synchronization delays may occur when there are a large number of contacts

I really need to remind you that even though you have 15 GB of data, you’ll be charged if you go over that limit.

AirDrop is Apple's built-in wireless sharing feature that lets you transfer files, photos, and contacts between Apple devices quickly and without needing an internet connection. It works by combining Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to create a direct link between two devices, making it one of the fastest and most private ways to move contacts from one iPhone to another.

Before you start transferring contacts from iPhone to new iPhone, make sure both iPhones have:

    • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on (AirDrop uses both)
    • AirDrop set to "Everyone" or "Contacts Only": Settings → General → AirDrop → Everyone (for 10 minutes)

How to transfer contacts from iphone to iphone without iCloud

    1. Open the Contacts app on the old iPhone

    2. Tap any contact → scroll down → tap "Share Contact"

Unfortunately, iOS doesn't have a native "select all + AirDrop" option, so this works one contact at a time.

If the other iPhone doesn't show up:

    • Make sure both phones are within 30 feet of each other
    • Check that the receiving phone is unlocked
    • Toggle Airplane mode on/off to reset connections
    • Double-check AirDrop isn't set to "Receiving Off"

The vCard workaround is the most practical way to move your entire contact list in one shot via AirDrop.
