How can I convert arw to jpg on Windows PC in bulk?
Hi all members,
I am new to photography and bought a Sony camera two weeks ago. When I imported the photos from the camera to my Windows 10 PC, the photos are in ARW image format that I was not familiar with.
Currently, I am using Adobe Dreamweaver for building my own websites. But, it does not accept .arw images by default. I have to convert arw to jpg so I can use the photos within Dreamweaver app. Please kindly suggest a working arw to jpg converter software to do this in bulk.
Thanks
I had the same issue with ARW files from my Sony camera, and Any2Pic (https://www.uumeo.com/raw-to-jpg) worked perfectly for bulk converting them to JPG. It’s simple and keeps the quality, so I could easily use the images in Dreamweaver.

I wasted lot of time with the solutions provided above.Seems people are promoting their prefered app/way.
Sony already has it's native application "Imaging Edge Desktop" that can process batch of files at same time with simple GUI. here is the link from their website-> https://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/app/imagingedge/en/instruction/5_2_development.php - LeonardoWilsonCopper Contributor
Windows Photo Viewer plus Paint is a bit like "making steel with primitive methods", but it can be used. In terms of operation, you first open your ARW file with Windows Photo Viewer, then right-click and select "Open with Paint". Then in Paint, just "Save as JPG".
However, if you want to batch process, this method is indeed a bit tiring, after all, each one must be converted manually. If you only do this for a few pictures occasionally, it's okay, but if you have a lot of ARW files, you may soon have a headache. Otherwise, you should look at Adobe's tools, which will make batch processing much easier!

dcraw is an free command-line tool designed to read and process raw image files from digital cameras, including ARW (Sony's raw format). It allows you to extract the image data and convert it into standard formats like JPEG.
How to convert ARW to JPG without losing quality:
1. You can find it on its official website or repositories. Extract the files to a folder.
2. Navigate to the folder where you extracted dcraw.
3. Run the following command:
dcraw -c input.arw > output.jpg
Replace input.arw with the path to your ARW file and output.jpg with your desired output filename.
The JPG file will be created in the same directory, or you can specify a different path in the command.

Bryanrivers Not all photo viewing or editing software supports ARW files natively. While Microsoft Photos can open them, some older versions of software might not recognize the format. In addition, ARW files are large because they contain uncompressed raw data. This can lead to slower loading times and increased storage requirements. Also, Raw files like ARW do not apply color profiles until processed, which might result in images appearing different than expected when viewed in non-supporting software.
To work with ARW files effectively, consider using professional ARW to JPG Converter software or dedicated raw processing software like Adobe Lightroom, Capture One.

Converting ARW files to JPG on Windows computer doesn't have to be a headache! I've been there, trust me, and I've learned a few tricks along the way that make the process way smoother. Microsoft Photos is a built-in app in Windows 10 and newer, and it can handle simple conversions. just right-click your ARW file, go to "Open with," and select Photos. After opening the file, click on the “...” in the top right, then select “Save as,” and choose JPG as the format. Easy peasy!
Make sure you know where the converted JPGs are being saved. This can save you some frustrating searching later! Check Your Work: After conversion, open the JPGs to ensure everything looks good. It's always a good practice to do a little quality check! - TaoulahoonCopper Contributor

I have tried to convert ARW to jpg photos with Microsoft Photos before, but I found that it does not support this function at all. I was a little disappointed! It seems that it can only handle more basic formats, not RAW formats like ARW. I later switched to IrfansView, which is quite easy to use and free. Do you want to try it?

Bryanrivers As far as I know, the Photos on Windows 10 and Windows 11 does not support .arw image format by default. Only a few common raw image formats are supported but not the case for ARW. You have to install the RAW Image Extension from Microsoft Store in order to view and convert arw to jpg on Windows for free.
If you're having trouble, you might consider using a dedicated ARW to JPG Converter software or codecs to enhance compatibility.

If you just slap your ARW files into a converter and convert, you might end up with JPGs that look washed out or totally off-color. Make sure to check how your software handles color profiles. Using software like Photohop or Lighroom lets you manage color profiles, but if you're rolling with a basic converter, you might miss out. Not every ARW to JPG converter software does a good job. Some free ones can mess up your images or compress them far too much, killing the quality. I'd recommend sticking with reliable software like Adobe Lighroom, Adobe Camer Raw, or even basic Microsoft Photos for simple conversions.
- NalaANBrass ContributorBefore converting ARW to JPG. Always keep a backup of your original ARW files. You'll want those untouched files in case something goes wrong with the conversion or if you decide you want to edit them later. If you're converting multiple files, find software that supports batch processing. Manually converting files one by one is a huge waste of time and can lead to inconsistencies in quality.
