How can I add text to image in windows with the same font?
New to photo editing. I want edit an image on a Windows PC and match the exact same font that is already in the picture. Adding text is easy, but getting it to look identical (same font style, size, spacing, etc.) is where things get tricky. The built-in apps like Paint or Photos don't seem to offer enough control for this.
Is there a good way to identify the font from an image and then reuse it when adding text to image in windows? Or any tools that can help match the font closely? Looking for something simple but accurate.

What about the Microsoft Word + Screenshot? This method uses Word's robust text formatting tools to add text to image in Windows, then saves the result using Windows' built-in Snipping Tool.
Step 1: Insert your image into Word
Open Microsoft Word (comes free with Windows)
Create a new blank document
Go to Insert > Pictures and select your image
Alternatively, drag and drop the image directly into Word
Step 2: Add text to image in Windows using Word's text box feature
Go to Insert > Text Box > Draw Text Box
Click and drag on the image to create a text box
Type your text
To use the same font repeatedly, set your font, size, color, and style in the Home tab
For subsequent text boxes, Word will remember your last used font settings
Step 3: Position and format the text
Click and drag the text box to position it anywhere on the image
Use Shape Fill > No Fill to make the background transparent
Use Shape Outline > No Outline to remove borders
Right-click the text box > Set as Default Text Box to lock in your font settings for future use
Step 4: Save as image
Press Win + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool
Drag a rectangle around your image
Click the notification that appears, then save as PNG or JPG

Using Google Fonts to add text to image on a Windows PC involves a simple two-step process. First, you download and install the font you want. Then, you use a compatible image editing program to place the text on your picture. Since Google Fonts are completely free and open-source, this method costs you nothing .
Step 1: Download and Install Google Fonts on Windows
- Browse and Select a Font
- Download the Font Family
- Extract the Font Files
- Install the Font
Step 2: Add Text to Image Using Your New Font
Once the Google Font is installed, you can add text to an image using any software that supports custom fonts. Using Microsoft PowerPoint (Easiest for Beginners):
- PowerPoint is an underrated tool for basic image creation.
- Insert your image (Insert > Pictures).
- Add a text box (Insert > Text Box).
- Type your text, highlight it, and find your newly installed Google Font in the font dropdown menu on the "Home" tab.
- Once you are happy with the design, you can save the slide as a picture.
While Google Fonts are fantastic and free, it is worth noting that some of them were designed primarily for use on websites. Because of this, a few fonts may lack kerning information, which is the fine-tuned spacing between specific character pairs (like "WA" or "To"). This is rarely an issue for headlines or short lines of text, but if you are using a font for a longer paragraph and the spacing looks slightly off, this could be the reason.

ImageJ is a powerful open-source image processing tool, often used in scientific research. However, it also includes basic annotation features that allow you to add text to an image easily, without needing a full-fledged editor like Photoshop.
Here’s the typical workflow to add text to image using ImageJ on Windows:
1. Download and install ImageJ.
2. Open your image by dragging it into the ImageJ window or using File > Open.
3. Select the text tool from the toolbar (it looks like a "T" icon). Click anywhere on the image, and a text box will appear.
4. Type your text in the popup dialog. You can customize the font, size, style, and color before clicking "OK."
5. Position the text – after inserting, the text becomes a selection that you can move around with your mouse. Click outside the selection to finalize it.
6. Save the annotated image using File > Save As (e.g., as PNG, JPEG, or TIFF). The text becomes part of the image pixels permanently.
Important notes:
- ImageJ adds text as pixel data, not as a separate layer. Once you save, you can’t edit the text again unless you undo before saving.
- For multi-line or highly formatted text, you may need to add separate text boxes.
- If you want to add text to image in batch, ImageJ supports macros and scripts, which is one of its strengths over basic image editors.
