Windows 11 Multi Session OS universal printer disappears after restart
Hello,
Hoping to get some help to resolve this issue. I am on Windows 11 multi-session OS 23H2. We are utilizing Citrix DaaS with Azure. Universal print is setup. The end user can manually add the printer(s) by going to: Settings – Bluetooth and Devices – Printers and Scanners – Add Device Search for printer – Work or School. The printer is installed and they can print.
The issue appears once the machine restarts. After a restart and the end user logs back in, they no longer have their printer. If they go through the method to add a printer, they don't have to re-add the device, they just have to click Search for printer, and the printer they previously added re-appears as installed. So it appears that there is something being retained as the printer being previously added, but why doesn't the printer appear after a restart when the user logs back in?
Any help is appreciated.

I have the same issue with Windows 23H2 and no Citrix. Exact same symptoms. Printers are there but then they just disappear. When the user tries to re-add the printer they can't because it is already installed even though they don't see it. The only way we found to rectify the situation is to
1)reboot,
2)Run "explorer shell:::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}" as this is the only way to see the printer
3)Reboot,
4)Add the printer back in.This is usually done remotely with users that have weak skills so it takes a very long time to do.

MZimb Can you open a Microsoft Support case? We want to look at what's causing the printers to disappear after a reboot.
Thx,

amyone did solve this problem?same here, avd w11 23h3 multisession with fslogix

I have not found a resolution for this yet. I am not strict AVD we have Citrix as an additional layer, however it sounds like the issue is coming from Windows 11 multisession w/ fslogix.
- MathematicalCopper ContributorI can confirm the same issue on a Win11 23 h2 multisession using FSLogix and without Citrix. Issue appears to be with the windows environment on AVD and not with Citrix.

jedwtdx - have you tried following up with Citrix on this? Typically when a printer is added on a multi-session OS image, it may load on different hosts every time. If printers are being managed at host level then the context of printers may get lost. Citrix may be able to comment better on how they manage printers across sessions.
Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) had a similar scenario and they handle it by maintaining a list of installed Universal Print printers in the user's image metadata.

Saurabh_Bansal : We are facing the same issue with AVD an FSLogix. The printers are missing and when the user searches for printers the printers re-appear, as installed.

WsTobi thanks for letting us know. Can you please open a Support case with Microsoft?

Saurabh_Bansal I will post the same question on a Citrix support forum and see if I get any answers. Citrix policies are set to retain printers for users, so I thought this might be an issue with universal print and multiOS, but maybe there is an issue with Citrix components/policies.
