New Surface Hub 2S 85, Teams needs update to work, but the Update just fails

I installed a brand new Surface Hub 2S 85 at a remote office two weeks ago. After the initial setup Teams would prompt me that an update is necessary and I went ahead started Windows Updates including a Windows Feature Update. However, the feature Update was eternally stuck at 20% and reboots would be stuck at the preparing Windows screen.

I followed the advice on the Microsoft learn page and ultimately completely reset the device. Today I am once again at the remote office and setup the device once again, but I am still running into the same issue. The feature Update simply won't install and I once again look at a preparing Windows screen.

Does anyone have any advice at further troubleshooting steps?

Thanks in advance, Felix

  • Hello Felix,

The Feature Update will indeed take a long time to install, but should go through in an hour or so. We also recommend extending the maintenance window for unattended fresh installs to 5 hours so that the update has enough time to succeed overnight as this includes downloading the updates, installing and restarts.
Teams update and the rest of the updates will take a lot less time.

    Thank you,
    Cezar

can someone from Microsoft please respond to this? We bought two of these Surfacehubs 2S 50 and I am stuck in the same situation. These devices behave like 500MHz computers… . You cannot be serious for an over 10k price tag! I am sitting here for 5 hours and the feature update will not get further then „Installing - 20%“ for both devices! What’s going on here?

        Hello Patty88,

As mentioned above the Feature Update will take around an hour to complete and this is expected. Other updates will be much faster.

All updates will also take place unattended  during maintenance hours.

        Thank you,

        Cezar

I forgot to mention, the currently installed Version of Windows 10 Team is Build 19042.804.
