Word Online - Can't edit document with other people
Hi All,
I am using SharePoint Online and the system said that I can't edit the document using word online.
I am using the custom template in document library.
Please advice.
Thanks.
- DeletedJul 24, 2018Custom template shouldn't hinder co-authoring, it's something in your actual template that would prevent it. Create a fairly basic Template and try to set that as the template. See if the problem persists. My guess is that it will be fine. There is something in the actual document used as a template that is preventing the Online editing, not necessarily anything to do with co-authoring, but just online client editing in general.
- DeletedI think you might be running into the whole file getting lock issues I've been seeing people complaining about. If you wait 15 minutes can you open this file and edit?

Hi Deleted
Thanks for your info. I haven't tried it out however I can see my name (2 same name) in the share name listing.
Just wondering what's the back end service to lock the document.
Thanks.
- DeletedIf you're using a custom template it's possible you might have some feature on that prevents co-authoring. Track changes used to do that, but I think it supports opening in Online clients now, it just doesn't let you view / approve changes etc. only in the client, but pretty sure there are a few others that will prevent editing Online. Assuming this works fine if you don't use that template?
