UX for search results of On-prem File shares in SharePoint Online

A customer is considering crawling local file shares and make results available in SPO, by using a Cloud Search Service Application where the the indexing is done in SPO.

I have just come across https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftSearch/file-share-connector, where there is a browser limitation preventing a user to open a link to the file, and having to copy to link and paste in a different tab. Horrible UX. I have the feeling this would happen also in the Hybrid scenario without this connector, as the Search page is the standard SPO 

Can someone tell me if this UX is the same when using a Cloud Search Service app in the standard Hybrid scenario?
