I find that the welcome page properties are lost amongst the noise of the information panel. My users are highly likely to ignore the information panel entirely as they rarely need that information. However they do need the welcome page properties.
I agree. The ability to keep a sub-set of columns and other important information front and foremost is quite important, particularly when you are using doc sets to manage a moderate or large number of cases simultaneously.
