trying to share folder with guest, but access denied.

I create sharing link of folder with anyone can edit permission.

But result was, you do not have permission, and access denied.

WHY?

  • Now there is a new concept of creating "Shareable Links" using Microsoft Flow:

    https://www.technologytobusiness.com/microsoft-flow-logic-apps/microsoft-flow-generates-tenant-shareable-links

The article highlights a use case for a SharePoint document library, however, there are actions that perform the same functionality on OneDrive for Business (preview) as well.

The benefits to using this approach over the traditional file link are:

    1. Guarantees that there are not access issues to the file from an email

    2. Allows for more control over the link behavior (Read/Write, Expiration Date, Scope)

  • I have the same problem. I want to share something from the onedrive android app, click on share via email, send the link and it doesnt work. very annoying.

Alexander Wuttke, can you confirm that the "Limited access mode" is disabled for the site containing the document you are trying to share? Thanks!

        Hello,

I’m creating an anonymous sharing link to a One Drive sub-folder.  No expiration.  OneDrive admin and SharePoint admin settings for sharing are set properly to allow external sharing of folders for view, upload, edit.  Limited-access user permission lockdown mode is disabled in the top-level site collection features.

In another browser and on another machine, I’m receiving the very same access denied error mentioned by folks in this thread.

Are there any other settings to check?  Please advise.

        Thanks!

  • Bit late, but from what we've seen this functionality is only available for files, not folders.

Allowing an authenticated user to share a folder to external users with anonymous access, then preventing the invited user from accessing the site seems a bit half baked..

Perhaps disallowing this or a message within the site would be helpful Microsoft?

  • Juhyun, it is hard to tell with the info you provided. If you were able to generate the link - looks like you have appropriate external sharing enabled. Try another browser or user. Also, sometime I noticed that when you share folders, it actually tries to render the whole library - so make sure other site assets (logo, etc) are available to those who you are sharing with.

      Greg,

I wish I could give you more info.

But it is simple as I wrote above.

I made folder shareing link with "anyone can edit" permission on sharepoint site.

But when I use that link, it says: Accenss denied. You do not have permission... blah blah...

      It is not browser problem.

        Hi 주현 김,

I am one of the Program Managers working on sharing in SPO and ODB. Can I get a few extra details about the problem you're seeing? Are you creating/copying the link inside of the SPO/ODB web experience or is it happening in Office?

Also, is it possible to get a screenshot of the error screen you are seeing? Thanks!
