SharePoint without Sync (Advice Needed)

This is the exact behaviour we want, a way to browse a SharePoint site without the overheads/issues of "sync"
The main issues here are
- the stability of the webdav connection ... it works when you open it, but you can't store and reliably return to it.
- From my understanding and discussions with Microsoft support, any use of the webdav connection is not recommended.
