SharePoint user adds random metadata to files
I have a SharePoint Library where we add procedures and documents. There is relevant metadata included (Owner, modified date, keywords, department, etc.), but for one individual contributor, every time she uploads it places oddly specific default values in these metadata fields.
I have confirmed on the library settings that there are no column defaults (In this folder or the root folder) and the problem does not occur with any other user. We did have her clear cache and log out and back in, but she is still the only user with this problem. What are we missing?

I’d check the file’s version history and audit logs to see when the metadata changed and which account made the update. It’s also worth reviewing any Power Automate flows or third-party apps that might be modifying the files automatically. That should help narrow down whether it’s a user action or an automated process.

One thing to check is metadata already stored inside her files, especially if she creates them from an old document or template. SharePoint can read matching Office document properties into library columns, even when no column defaults are configured.
Try uploading the same affected file through another user, using a different filename to avoid overwriting anything. Also have her upload a completely new document that wasn’t based on an existing file.
If the unwanted values follow the file, open it in desktop Office and check File > Info > Properties > Advanced Properties, particularly the Custom tab. Correct the relevant properties in a test copy and check the original template too.
If the values appear only when she uploads—even with a fresh document—check Power Automate flows or other library automation for conditions tied to her account. Version history may help show whether the metadata arrives with the upload or is changed afterward.
