Sharepoint "Sorry you cant edit this document with others"
Hello all,
My org has been running into this error a lot recently dont know why. Users are able to check out the file but when clicking edit in browser they get the
"Sorry you cant edit this document with others"
error. This happens to site owners and admins as well and happens if they try to edit in the desktop version. Checking permissions on the file shows correct information and the editing of a separate file in the same document folder with the same permissions shows no issues.

Hello graichart.
Did you check if the document has been protected? Even if permissions are fine, a document-coped protection could prevent other users from editing it.

Bharath Arja Thanks for the information. Im accessing the file through our sharepoint site, it states that the file is checked in. Users with proper permissions are able to checkout the file but are unable to edit do to the "Sorry you cant edit this document with others" error. Checking in and checking out the file does not change this error.
- Are users unable to edit the document in browser?
From your original post, I assumed that the issue is only when editing documents in office desktop apps? Hence i suggested to check any cache issues.
Just looking at the error "Sorry you cant edit this document with others" - Is there a chance that user might have document open in a different tab or different browser session?
