SharePoint: Site Collection Storage Management > returning to 'Manual' from 'Automatic' setting
Hi, we have had our tenant set to 'Automatic' for Site Collection Storage Management for a while now. We are thinking that we might need to revert to 'Manual'.
Can someone tell me what changing this setting would do to site collection storage settings?
Does it:
- Set the site collection storage limit back to its original value?
- Set the site collection storage limit to the current storage value, or tjhe current storage level plus 'x'?
- Set the site collection storage limit to a defined level?
- Or something else…
I am trying to work out the ramifications of doing this and whether or not reverting this switch will cause me any headaches.
Thanks,
Paul

- Norman Di PasqualeIron ContributorOut of curiosity, why do you need to revert back to Manual? I love the "set it and forget it" of having the storage management being automatic.

Norman, the question is one of trying to stop 'misbehaviour' before it occurs. With no limits people can choose to dump a file server's worth of information onto my tenant, and it's then MY problem to help them put it where it should be. Rather than with a limit set the content can't be added without some prior discussion - and I can then **bleep** it in the bud before it becomes my problem to move it on. We've got 15,000 users and while most will use the storage 'sensibly' you'll always get the odd bright spark!

Thanks for the links but I'm still not positive what will happen to site collection storage levels when we revert to 'Manual', the article suggests that they will have been set to 1TB. We have thousands of sites and I don't want to create myself a headache by switching back to 'Manual' and finding out that several hundred will need their limits extended.
