Sharepoint Server 2013 and Sharepoint client 2010

Hey all,

So our IT Manager has retired and I have noticed we have Sharepoint Server 2013.  No one in the organisation uses Sharepoint though. I have no idea how long it has been there.

Anyway I thought I would have a look at it.

We use Office 2010 and my query is how do I connect Sharepoint 2010 to the Sharepoint server?

The Sharepoint server is sync'd with our domain.  Upon opening Sharepoint 2010 it gives two options for connecting; creating an account or entering a configuration code.

I figure the configuration code is the way to go but cannot find anything in the Sharepoint admin console to generate these codes?

Can someone advise?

thanks

jc

    Hey,

I guess you meant to say "Using Office 2010 (word, excel etc) to open files from SharePoint 2013?"

If so you actually don't need to do anything in particular. As long as SharePoint 2013 is still running, you can get the site collection URL that you'd like to access, make sure you have the permission to this site collection. And then you can open the site collection through browser, from there you can navigate to different libraries to see what files are there. And depends on the file format you will use word/excel or other office app to open the files.

Let me know if this addressed your question.

  • Hi JC,

If you have SP 2013 and SP 2010 then they will be in two different SharePoint farms. It isn't possible to joined different SharePoint versions into a single farm.

There is an upgrade path where you can migrate you content databases from SP2010 to SP2013. Before you do this you need to check to see if any third-party solutions are deployed into the SP2010 farm.

    I hope that helps

    Cheers

    Steve
