SharePoint Online - Lists and Libraries (Modern Experience)

Starting around mid-day today (08/08/2017) we experienced that all our 'Lists and Libraries' have automatically switched to "Modern" experience even though we had explicitly set those to use the "Classic" and have been using "Classic" without any issues since almost an year now.

There were no changes done at the 'Centeral Admin' level. Although impractical to suspect the possibility of microsoft running a powershell unannounced on our tenant, but I could not think of other situation which could result in such a sudden change, unless Microsoft is not supporting the 'Classic' experience any more.

Appreciate any insights. Thanks so much.

Does your admin panel have Classic Lists turned on? I have noticed in there and also in advanced settings you can configure the Modern/classic lists

The Cenrtal Admin panel always had the 'New Experience (Auto Detect)' and the configuration at 'List and Library' level (In Advanced Settings) we had earlier set to 'Classic experience' explictly, but today without any manual admin action is changed to "Default experience set by my administrator".

We can switch back to 'Classic' (though there are hundred of Lists and Libs) but I am trying to find out the reason why the setting got changed on it's own.

      • You might also apply the PowerShell approach to be sure no modern experiences are applied to your sites
