SharePoint modern pages - removing the shading from banner images

We noticed the same thing and came up with a work-around that might help you. We sized the image to work as a banner and then added it to a full width image web part on the top of the page. No shading and same outcome!

AndrewWarland Go to 'Edit web part' on the image and on the right window that pops up, switch off 'Show background gradient':

These instructions aren't working for me. I don't see a 'Show background gradient' when I edit the web part, which is an image in the Hero template. Is there an update to these instructions? Thank you so much. Kyla

Leland Usher Unfortunately, SharePoint news carousel web part does not support "Show/hide background gradient" options.

KylaAtTheLibrary The option to remove the background gradient is only available for the page title banner image. It is not an option for the images in the hero web part, but you are not alone in wanting this! You can upvote this item in the feedback portal: Hero Webpart - Option to remove gradient overlay ยท Community (microsoft.com) to add your vote to the existing feedback item.
