SharePoint Migration Tool after failed copying
Hi,
Yes, you can re-migrate from the network drive to SharePoint Online using the SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT) and ensure that the newer versions of the files in SharePoint are preserved.
While the current version of SPMT does not directly offer incremental migration for brand-new tasks, there are options available to achieve a similar outcome. Specifically, you can use the “Migrate files created after” and “Migrate files modified after” filters in SPMT settings. These options allow you to migrate only files that were created or updated after a specific date, effectively performing an incremental migration.
If you already have an existing migration session saved, check it to see if you can run an incremental migration from there. This might save you time and ensure that only the missing or updated files are migrated.
Here’s how you can set it up:
- Open the SharePoint Migration Tool and set up the migration source (network drive) and destination (SharePoint library).
- In the migration settings, enable the “Migrate files created after” or “Migrate files modified after” filters and provide an appropriate date.
- Save and run the migration task.
This will allow SPMT to skip files already updated or present in SharePoint and migrate only the necessary changes.

Hi HaidariHammad ,
thank you for the reply. Unfortunately it's the other way round: the user worked on the files on SharePoint not on the network drive.
So I need to keep/protect the files on SharePoint and migrate the rest from network.Imho your suggested settings migrates only th files from the network which were created/modified after the specified date. This should overwrite newer files on SPO.
