Sharepoint Install
Hello SharePoint Community,
I am testing SharePoint in a VMware lab on a Windows Server 2012 R2 VM. I have already installed the pre-requisites for SharePoint 2016 and they installed successfully and I have restarted many times already, however when I try to install SharePoint I get the, "A system restart from a previous installation or update is pending. Restart your computer and run setup to continue."
Any ideas on what this could be? Would I also need to do a regedit?

- Open the Registry editor
- Navigate to this path “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager“
- Rename the “PendingFileRenameOperations” value to “OldPendingFileRenameOperations“
- Reboot the server

Hello Scott,
The regedit worked. Thank you very much. I am now on the database settings and what are the requirements for this and or an example of a database server name?

Here are all the requirements for a single server SharePoint 2016 farm.

For my understanding: no matter how many times you reboot, this message remains?

Yes, that is correct. I might do the regedit per another response and I will provide an update.
- Christopher SchottCopper ContributorI have also installed the latest Windows updates. Should I try to install Sharepoint 2016 on a Windows Server 2016 VM?
