SharePoint Designer (SPD) 2013 for 365 - SPD-view in browser mode, add hotspots to a picture

Hi,

We regularly used picture hotspots in SPD2010. SPD2013, which we have for SharePoint Online/365, still has the menu options of inserting a picture hotspot with the drawing tool but as we cannot view in browser mode anymore there is no way of identifying the coordinates. I have been reading forums on this and the only work-around I can find is to set it up using SPD2010 then cut and paste into SPD2013 - SURELY this is not the answer! Why are those tools still available in SPD2013 when you can't even use them?!

  • Well, I understand your pains here, but bear also in mind that Microsoft has not evolved SPD 2013 for the last years and the decision of removing the view mode in pages edited with SPD 2013 was taken a long time ago...have you considered to meet your requirements by means of HTML code instead? You could build your HTML page with the picture and hotspots and simply reference it in a Content Editor WebPart in a classic SPO page

Thank you for your responses - yes, I realise the decision was made many years ago not to include the design view in SPD 2013 which is why I find it quite frustrating/shoddy that the interface still hasn't been cleaned up to remove the menu items that you can only use with design view! But that aside, html coding for hotspots is fine, but is there a simple way of identifying what the coordinates are for a particular location of the hotspot on the image? I'm harping on I know, but I could do this in a few seconds with the design view by simply drawing it in.
