Sharepoint Crawling doesn't auto run as per schedule.

Hi All,

I schedule auto crawl but somehow under crawl log is not running. Every morning I need to click on "Start all Crawl in order to run manually.  i tried performing the following but no luck and there's no error. Manually crawl working well but not schedule. which is the servicing should be running for the auto crawl? I'm using SharePoint 2019 on-premises, and the windows is updated as for Oct 2023

could anyone assist and what are the things to check?

- Restart the timer service

-Restart the VMs

Thank you

Jason120 When you say there is no error - how did you check?

Have you tried running a full crawl before running auto crawl?

Have you configured Diagnostic Logging to capture logs properly?

Configure diagnostic logging in SharePoint Server - SharePoint Server | Microsoft Learn

** NOTE: Monitor the drive space if you decide to include more in your logs.

Have you checked the ULS Viewer Crawl Logs?

Download ULS Viewer from Official Microsoft Download Center

** NOTE: Depending on your farm topology. You will have to run the ULSViewer on where the Search Service Application was deployed to.

      Tristan999

I checked via the crawl history and is not running.

moreover, i checked the log file from c:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\16\LOGS. I'm not sure how to read the log.

not sure are they related, somehow my content database show status error and unable to find the preferred time job.

Jason120 Running a SharePoint on-premises is very involved.

Based on your posts (i.e., the WSS_Content - using defaults, not knowing how to read ULS logs). So far, I gather that you are very new in the SharePoint world. And, I mean no offence by that. We all have to start somewhere!

The images and the errors I am seeing look like there's more issues in your SharePoint Farm than just the search service application.

You may want to take a look at this book Amazon.com: Deploying SharePoint 2019: Installing, Configuring, and Optimizing for On-Premises and Hybrid Scenarios eBook : Catrinescu, Vlad, Seward, Trevor: Books - I have no affiliation to these guys, but they are both well known in the SharePoint world.

Perhaps consider getting some assistance by using a contractor/consultant (specifically an architect) to begin your SharePoint journey as it could be overwhelming to maintain for beginners. If you do end up hiring help, make sure to work with them closely and ask as much questions as possible, get them to generate the build books, information architecture, etc.,
