SharePoint app on Windows 10 Mobile 1703

I think I might be going mad.

A few weeks ago I purchased 31 Microsoft Lumia 650 devices in the hope of better integrating users with O365 and SharePoint. Now users are complaining that they cannot add/edit items in lists on the Windows Mobile SharePoint app. It seemed odd to me as I knew it works on the Android app so I tested myself and they were right. I can’t seem to be able to add/edit items in lists using the SharePoint Windows app while I can on the Android one.

I work for a charity and I was the one proposing the Windows phones, and it wasn’t an easy decision or a light investment for us. When the mobile contract came up for renewal I pretty much just put my neck on the line promising better integration with O365 and SharePoint if we switch to Windows Mobile phones. It seemed logical as our whole working environment is based around O365 and SharePoint.

Did anyone experience something similar? Am I missing a setting or something? If not, and it is an app limitation and with all the news about the future of Windows 10 Mobile, is it sensible to return all the phones and stick it with Android? I have a small window of opportunity left to return them.

Your help and support will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Ciprian

Hi Ciprian, Firstly you are not going mad! Functionality varies across all the major mobile platforms and across all Office 365 apps. Frequently, Windows Mobile is last in receiving features which are already available on iOS and Android versions of apps and this is likely the case here in the SharePoint app. Microsoft's decision here is evidently driven by market share which is dominated by Apple and Android. On balance, it is likely that list functionality will be updated but timing is not always clear. I can say having devices on all three platforms, it is frustrating having all these variations but definitely a reality for us all going forward. As I mentioned, this is not tied simply to SharePoint but to the wider Office 365. Unintuitively it is no longer the case today, in my view, that Windows Mobile is the first choice for Office.

      Thank you John,

That's very dissapointing from Microsoft. I understand the reasoning of getting inside the Android and iOS enviroments but still, abandoning their platform and customers in such a way is a bit dissapointing. Even more as the phones are, in my opinion, a joy to use.

I will now have to start the process of returning the phones. Also see if I still have a job at the end of the month :) (jokes .. I hope)

      Best regards,

      Ciprian

    • Yep, the reality is that Windows Mobile is always the last mobile platform to receive an Office 365 Mobile App...normally iOS is the first, after iOS the App comes to Android and lastly to Windows Mobile

        Thanks Juan,

It's sad but can one do. I'll return the handsets, if possible.

Thank you, and John above, for your replies, much appreciated!

        Best regards,

        Ciprian
