Search Architectures for SharePoint Server 2016
I have a new client with content in file servers. They want to use SPO and we planning on installing a SP 2016 Search Farm with Hybrid enabled to crawl the file shares. A Small Search Farm should be sufficient for the amount of content they have. The Plan Cloud Hybrid guidance indicates that 1 SP server is all that is needed. My understanding is that I should be able to install SP 2016 on 1 server using the Search Min Role and then I should be able to run the Cloud SSA script to configure the hybrid functionality. If scaling is required, I would add another server and move the Query Processing component to the new server. Does this architecture seem appropriate?
One thing that I am not clear on is the recommended approach to ensure High Availability of the Cloud SSA. I can't find any specific guidance for this scenario. Can anyone explain how this is best accomplished?

- Ey Dean,
Then, one server is not enough...If you depoloy SP 2016 FP2, you will be able basically to deploy the architecture you have described here: https://blogs.office.com/2016/09/26/announcing-feature-pack-1-for-sharepoint-server-2016-cloud-born-and-future-proof/ (Application with Search seems to be the option for you)- Dean_GrossSilver ContributorWhat is FP2? Has that been announced somewhere?
I think he means FP1 :)
But you'll need Dist Cache whether you want it or not, so you must go the Custom route for a 2 node farm.
