This is not so new and has been around there for some time. I agree this is totally unexpected and cannot tell you why Microsoft decided deleting a folder with content should behave like this

- I agree on both counts. This is not a new "feature" and its a bit of a pain. I have a Power Automate flow that I adapt to do this whenever I need to delete more than I am prepared to do by hand. Go over the the PowerApps/Power Automate community for help...
