Re-Enable Modern Lists & Libraries

So let's say a particular user (me) was needing to check in a document in the Style Library but, upon discovering they couldn't in the new modern view, clicked the "Return to classic SharePoint" in the bottom left corner and now only sees classic Libraries and Lists across all sites. How could this user (me) get the modern experience for Libraries and Lists back?

  • From what I have found the Return to Classic is just a temporary revert.  This sets a browser cookie that causes the everything to show the classic format.   I did not look very deep, but I think this is just a session cookie, so if you close your browser and open a new one you should get the modern look again.

Last night after posting I had the same thought that it's probably a cookie since it was just my login that was having the issue (i.e. anyone else was seeing modern lists & libraries). Logging in via an incognito tab verified this, so clearing cache/cookies should fix this for me. Thanks!

It depends on your company a lot of companies still use classic as the modern ui is not complete yet. i think it will take till the end of the year before the modern ui is ready. And even then it will take time before the classic ui will stop working.

      • You can force the new experience per list/document library in the list/document library configuration...alternatively you can ensure is enabled by default at the site level using PowerShell
