Promote HUB site to top level domain URL
Hi,
I’ve tried finding the answer in the community, unforntunately to no avail. I’m wondering if i can assign the top level URL domainname.sharepoint.com to a HUB (communication) site i recently created. I currently have a site collection with an old teamsite template assigned to the top level URL which i’d like to replace. Anyone tried and succeeded? Documentation isnt very helpfull either.
Thanks in advance,
Sander

- DeletedJun 07, 2018Currently no. There are some users that have deleted and recreated the root site as a comm site but it's not a currently supported scenario. Coming in the near future we will be able to choose where the site navigation is location from left, top, or none. Once this is released you'll be able to officially get this result.

Sander Beukers there is user voice for this feature https://sharepoint.uservoice.com/forums/329214-sites-and-collaboration/suggestions/20308864-set-communication-site-as-root-site-collection
Here is the workaround https://hangconsult.com/2017/06/29/change-sharepoint-online-root-site-collection-to-use-the-new-communication-site-template/
"Until Microsoft release a means to change this, my workaround is as follows, remember that this works best for new customer or customer with an empty root SPO site, existing customer need to plan a migration of content." as mentioned by Deleted this is not an official approach.

I'm guessing this workaround prevents the site from getting updates to the template. I'll wait what MS comes with. Thanks for your answer.

Deleted Do you happen to know of anyone using this PowerShell Utility yet?
This sounds like what we have been waiting for to convert (migrate/replace) our current Legacy Classic Template based intranet to the Modern Hubs experience.
- It's starting to rollout soon if it hasn't already, they just posted about it in the Admin message center recently.
